The NCTJS was founded in 1995 alongside the Poudre River Irregulars (PRI) jazz band and we have continued over the years with a joint business relationship. With the Society’s move in 2023 to a federal non-profit determination, we will continue endorsing the PRI, with goals of financial clarity for them and for our members, as we broaden the knowledge and appreciation of traditional jazz in our community. The Harmony Hotshots Jazz Band was founded in 2023 as a nurturing band for collegiate age and older skilled musicians who desire to practice and learn improvisational playing with a band onstage. This band also has experienced musicians who provide mentoring.

Avogadro’s Number, a landmark restaurant in Ft. Collins, has been home to the PRI and NCTJS since 1995! The Irregulars have a long-standing arrangement to play at Avo’s on the first Friday of every month. These lively concerts always draw a large crowd, who enjoy hearing the leader give sound bites about the musicians who wrote, arranged or performed, the tunes that are played. Our Society members manage the the handling of cover charge payments, the logistics of seating and the payment to musicians. Cover charges and table reservations(for three or more) can also be paid on this website. (Go to Reserve a Table) All cover charges and tips go directly to the musicians that evening.

The Harmony Hotshots will perform the Fourth Sunday afternoon of every month. This performance is informal, with open seating. Tables are not saved. The crowd enjoys a relaxing Sunday afternoon with joyful music and atmosphere. In the future, we hope to have a spotlight on local high school, CSU and UNC musicians. Society members welcome fans who pay by cash or check at the Welcome Table. Credit Cards are not accepted at this event.
